The Hollow City – Why Artists Can’t Survive In Dublin in 2025

4:45 pm - 5:30 pm
O'Reilly Hall

A panel discussion about the problems facing creatives living and working in Dublin and in urban centres more broadly.

Author Karl Geary and writer/director Maeve Stone join Roe McDermott to explore whether Dublin city has become a gleaming glass and steel vault for capital, rather than a city for its people. They will ask – Who owns our cities? Is urban planning being dictated by Silicon Valley interests? If so, what does that mean for artists trying to live and work here?

As rising costs and development push creatives to the margins, are we witnessing the erosion of a diverse cultural ecosystem? Without space or support, radical, progressive and profound voices are being silenced, unable to grow, thrive or be heard.
